Various areas of implementations
Corporate identity
Custom typefaces can help companies express their corporate identities across of all their activities, its a distinct visual element of their identities. A full type system intended for all publications, internal reports, office documents, signages and advertisements of a particular company is a perfect complement of a corporate identity. A simple logotype can’t be applied on all documents, pages of publications easily. A typeface family (used in conjunction with the elements of the corporate identity, such layout system, colors, images, symbols) keeps alive the style and identity of a company without to be literal. Branding Fonts can answer to various identity needs of the departments, sub-brands, etc.
On more specific cases, a simple and basic typeface intended to compose the “logotype names” of worldwide companies is required, to maintain a naming-lettering system for a multitude of sub-companies. Some companies use a typeface for all their product brands.
Sometimes, companies need a particular typefaces. The value of particular product can be increase by the use of a custom font for its marketing, or simply to customize the product itself following client request.

Signages
Signage is an integral part of a corporate identity, its a key application in architecture design, to graphically sign the space. In public transports, typefaces belong to the service delivered to the users because the typefaces help to communicate the required information at the right time. Typefaces for such environments should be very legible and enough recognizable to federate, along the architecture various places into a unique identity. Parisine typeface family designed for the RATP (Paris transport network) is used from the basic signage on the metro (around 500 stations), to the buses (few thousand of stations), maps, and various communication.
Publications, newspapers, magazines
Some of our newspapers fonts are designed to improve legibility of the text size newspapers together with an economy of space, others to bring identity to a publication. Because publications are unique, a standard typeface generally never perform at its maximum for it. Historically, typefaces have been designed for certain sizes, and today, its important to increase legibility of written publications, but mots of standard typefaces exist in one size not always suitable to a specific use. The comfort of the readers is crucial to keeps them. Specific typefaces ad value to the identity of the publication, help to differentiate content from advertisements, to differentiate from its direct competitors.
When for text sizes, legibility is a key factor, eventually more important than style—for headlines a unique tailored typeface style, help to built the identity of the publication as corporate identities for companies, its the ID card of the publication on the eyes of the readers. Together with the masterhead, the typeface used for titling add style and personality to a publication, its uniqueness.

Licences and cost
If you compare the cost of a large worldwide font licence for a corporation with specially tailored typefaces for a unique company, quickly you can be convinced that is more afordable to have a dedicated typeface family. Just one example for a popular typeface, prices are subject to change depending of your distributor, but the general idea should be the same:
Frutiger in Regular, Italic, Bold, Bold Italic (basic latin, OpenType format) for 5000 cpus (users) will cost around *€ 12000.* For this amount, you probably have the budget for a small typeface family who cover more languages and OpenType features. Indeed, depending the brief, typeface style, licence options, the price can be different, but at the end, we aren’t far at all from a standard typeface.
Not only your company will be able to maintain a unique style by the use of a tailored typeface, but, depending of your licence options, you will be able to distribute your typefaces to everyone who work for you, with you, such thing who generally not easily possible with standard typefaces from the market. With almost no difference in term of budget, you can have a dedicated typeface for reflect the company identity rather than a basic almost identical to many competitors typeface.
